This B1 functional language area focuses on the practical communication skills needed to manage typical scenarios encountered during travel in a Dutch-speaking environment.
Scope:
Builds on basic travel phrases (A1/A2) to handle more complex interactions and unexpected situations independently.
- Transportation:
- Public Transport: Buying tickets (
een kaartje kopen), asking for departure/arrival times (Hoe laat vertrekt/komt de trein/bus aan?), finding the right platform/stop (Naar welk perron/welke halte moet ik?), understanding delays (de vertraging) or cancellations (geannuleerd). - Asking Directions: Asking for directions (
Hoe kom ik bij...?,Kunt u mij de weg wijzen naar...?), understanding directions given (using prepositions of place, landmarks), confirming understanding. - Taxis/Car Rental: Basic interactions for hiring or using services.
- Accommodation:
- Checking in/out (
inchecken/uitchecken) at a hotel (het hotel) or other lodging (de B&B,de camping). - Asking about facilities (
Is er wifi/ontbijt?), making requests (Kan ik een extra kussen krijgen?). - Reporting problems (
De verwarming doet het niet.,Er is een probleem met...).
- Food and Drink:
- Ordering food and drinks (
eten en drinken bestellen) in a restaurant (het restaurant) or cafë (het cafë). - Understanding the menu (
de menukaart), asking about ingredients (Wat zit er in dit gerecht?), making specific requests (e.g., dietary needs, if able). - Asking for the bill (
Mag ik de rekening, alstublieft?).
- Shopping:
- Asking for specific items (
Ik zoek...,Heeft u...?). - Asking about price (
