Introduction

Discussing work is a common topic of conversation. This chapter covers vocabulary related to jobs, workplaces, work activities, and describing what people do for a living.

Key Questions

Common Professions (`Beroepen`)

Note that many professions have both masculine (-er, -eur, -ent, etc.) and feminine (-ster, -trice, -ente) forms, although the masculine form is often used generically. Job titles are increasingly gender-neutral.
